Rolling out the Red carpet for UX Australia 2021’s keynote speakers part 2

We've officially launched all four #uxa2021 keynote speakers! While we've already introduced you to Scott Berkun & Dori Tunstall, nows the chance to get to know Steven Wakabayashi and Gerrard Gossens! We can't wait to have all keynotes open each day at UX Australia 2021.

Steven Wakabayashi

Steven Wakabayashi is set to dial in all the way from New York, opening up Day 2 of UX Australia 2021. Steven is the founder of QTBIPOC Design, the host of the Yellow Glitter podcast and has previously led creative teams for some of the biggest brands including Apple, Samsung and Sephora.

Steven created QTBIPOC Design last year in the hope to provide LGBTQ+ designers of colour with free and accessible education, mentorship and networking. Each month Steven and the QTBIPOC Design team host a series of free boot camps, masterclasses and social evenings, providing the QTBIPOC community with the knowledge and skills to excel in their design careers.

Steven has had his work published in Queerty, Medium and also releases his newsletter each week, Mindful Moments. Steven will present virtually at UXA2021, delivering Design Thinking for Building Equitable Teams to the hybrid audience. In his presentation, Steven will discuss equitable design culture and teams, and hopes to encourage designers and team leads to explore how they approach diversity in the workplace.

You can follow Steven on Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram and Tik Tok before catching him at the conference in August!

Gerrard Gosens OAM

You may recognise Gerrard Gosens from 1996, 2000 and 2008 Paralympics, as the winner of Young Queenslander of the year, or possibly even from Dancing with the Stars?

Gerrard Gosens truly is one of Australia’s highest achievers. He is a totally blind adventurer, Paralympian, project manager, motivational speaker and even a chocolatier!

In 2012, Gerrard was honoured with an Order of Australia (OAM) award for his outstanding service to sport and to people with vision impairments. Gerrard is currently preparing for the 2020/2021 Tokyo Paralympic Games, which will be his fourth appearance in the games since 1996.

Gerrard has represented Australia at the Paralympics in goalball and distance running and in six Athletics World Championships, as well as the 2012 Marathon World Cup. In 2016, he was approached at his local swimming pool to see if he’d like to compete in a triathlon. He went on to win bronze at the 2017 World cup, placed 9th at the 2017 World Championships, and in December 2018 went the extra distance and won the Paralympic category at the Busselton Ironman. Gerrard also won the 2018 Oceania Triathlon Sprint Championships, and multiple medals at World Cups leading to the Paralympic Games and is currently ranked in the top ten paralympic sprint triathletes in the world.

Gerrard will join us in person at The Mint Sydney, to open up Day 3 of the hybrid conference.
