Women in UX workshop When Design Thinking Meets Your Personal Life

This year we launched the Women in UX workshop When Design Thinking Meets Personal Development.

Hosted by Sarah Stokes and Karina Smith, the two-part online workshop took a deep dive into how you can apply design thinking to your personal and professional life. An extension from the Women in UX May meetup, the workshop challenged attendees to turn the questions they usually ask clients onto themselves, in the hope to build self-awareness to pursue both personal and professional goals.

Day 1 of the workshop explored applying The Double Diamond problem-solving method to our lives to explore possible futures for ourselves. Attendees worked collaboratively through the design process, sharing ideas and concepts about applying these design practices to their personal lives. Attendees were left with an experiment for homework, understanding how they can apply their newfound ideas to their day-to-day activities.

Day 2 of the online workshop was a productive session about envisioning what attendees want in, and out of, their future. Attendees were encouraged to get creative and explore the activities they can undertake to achieve their desired outcomes. Attendees worked together to explore these ideas and concepts.

Karina and Sarah shared an extensive list of resources and readings for attendees, and we’ve listed a few below for you to explore!

“... how great the workshop was - Thank you! I found the practical exercises really helpful and I learnt a lot about myself...”

The workshop raised funds for the Women's and Girls Emergency Centre (WAGEC). Based in Sydney, the WAGEC supports women and families in crisis, advocating for social change in the community. The funds raised help to create safe spaces for women and children who have experienced homelessness and domestic violence. The funds support women’s financial independence, giving kids what they need to thrive and nurturing clients' recovery from trauma.
