UX Australia 2022 is a wrap!

We can’t believe UXA 2022 is over. Four days of in person and online talks and workshops with some of the best UX talent around! The Grand Hyatt was a great venue and looked after everyone very well from opening party to after party.

Despite a few small technical challenges, and with some fantastic volunteer and sponsor support, we managed to provide a pretty smooth event for the 250ish in person and 300ish odd online attendees. Here’s a summary of everything that happened.

Workshop days

The UX Australia conference always starts sort of softly, with a couple of days of workshops before we plunge headlong into two intense days of presentations. This year they were all in person, giving people the chance to get hands on and have a shared experience. More details…

Free activities

Across most afternoons and evenings of the conference, our amazing sponsors organised and ran sessions for conference attendees. Topics ranged from research to content to managing teams. With so many free opportunities to learn, attendees could make the most of every day.

In addition to running free sessions, a number of sponsors also supported the in person event with booths and coffee carts.

Keynotes & presentations

The main part of the conference happens on the presentation days. Bookended by special guest keynotes, our speakers are selected and talks are curated to flow thematically.

Joining us to kick off the conference, design academic Lara Penin dialled in from New York. To cap off the first day, we heard from the inspiring Corey Tutt of Deadly Science.

Tim Yeo set the tone on the second day with a refreshingly candid talk about being an introvert and leading teams. Finally, Christian Crumlish took us out with a voice from product management and some lessons in cooperation for the greater good.

All our presenters, whether in person or online, gave it their all and shared both serious and funny insights into ways of seeing and working in UX. See all their profiles here.

While only attendees get access to recordings, we will be making transcripts and presentations downloadable soon.

Team work makes the dream work

Our core team at UX Australia is tiny but mighty, steered by the dynamic duo of Annabelle and Jasmine, supported by Claire and led by Steve.

But in person events cannot be run without the help of volunteers to pack the swag, usher new arrivals, welcome registrants and help us move stuff around. A big thanks to all who supported us throughout and to the venue staff who kept us fed and watered.

Sponsor support

A big thanks to all our sponsors who provided sessions, booths, coffee and other support throughout the four days of activity.
