Design Leadership 2021: What it’s all about
Design Leadership 2021 (DL 2021) is our annual one-day online event exploring the issues, methods, philosophies, and strategies of design leadership.
We developed this event because we saw the need for conference content that goes well beyond tools, practices and trends, and is more deeply relevant for the leadership layer of design organisations.
This year’s DL 2021 carries forward some of the themes from UXA 2021 in August.
Diversity, equality and inclusivity: Are you sure you’re doing it right?
The concept of diversity, equality and inclusivity (DEI) as it applies in workplaces has been around for years. In UX design, these concepts extend beyond having more equal and transparent hiring practices, and impact how we approach the design and creation of products and services.
But how sure are we that we’re effective in this area? What are our default processes and do they need a tune-up? Do we still have blind spots? When was the last time we examined our habits and looked closely at how effective our DEI practices are in relation to how we lead?
At the morning workshop session of DL 2021, Winitha Bonney is going to help update our thinking on DEI and help us check in on what we are doing to ensure we build truly equitable products and teams.
Leading teams, but not as we know it
The COVID-19 pandemic has changed so much about how and where we work, and what productivity and success looks like. During the afternoon forum at DL 2021, we’re carving out some time to discuss how the circumstances uniquely affect leaders in the design world.
Through facilitated discussion and conversation, as well as practical workshop-like activity and breakout sessions, we’ll examine the challenges and work on strategies for overcoming them.

Design Leadership is a small audience conference by design. With no more than 50 participants, it is an opportunity to openly discuss leadership and management challenges with trusted peers, and gain solid strategies for steering the teams that design great things.
