UX careers: The good, the bad, and the ugly
There’s never been a more exciting time to work as a UX designer. The awareness of user experience as a strategic priority is increasing among clients, which has resulted in UX roles becoming increasingly in demand. The technology we have at our disposal is mind-blowing, and the opportunities are boundless.
But this presents a problem for UXers at many levels – how does one manage a career when the goal posts are moving so quickly?
In this panel, we’ll speak to a range of senior UXers and recruiters about their personal experiences in hiring UXers and crafting their own careers. Panelists include:
- Luke Chambers, UX Mastery (in-house UX designer)
- Jodie Moule, Symplicit (hiring manager)
- Fox Woods (freelance UX architect)
- Emma Jones (UX recruiter)
- Matthew Magain, UX Mastery (moderator)
The session will be mostly audience-driven. This is your chance to ask questions like:
- What should a UX portfolio look like?
- Do I need a resume as well as a portfolio?
- What kinds of salaries should UXers expect to receive? How do they compare to contract rates, and how much does it vary between cities?
- How does one find a mentor?
- What’s the best way to find a new opportunity?
- When is the best time to go freelance?
- Should I work with a recruiter? How does that work?
- What can I expect from an interview for a UX role?
If you’ve always wondered about this stuff but never had the chance to ask, now’s your chance. In addition, all attendees to the panel will receive their own UX self-assessment kit, to help them with their own career.
