Running a kick ass interview

Interviewing is one of the most useful techniques from our user research toolbox but people often forget that it’s a skill that should be developed and practised. People often feel that since interviewing is about talking to people, then we should have this innate interviewing skill.

A good interviewer is able to build rapport quickly, practice active listening and to watch and listen for those nuances that lead to key insights. It’s about being able to draw out a person’s story, rather than just a series of questions and answers.

This hands-on session is aimed at new to intermediate UX practitioners.

This session is about giving you a chance to put your interviewing skills into practice. Through active participation from this hands-on session, we will be covering:

  • Effective questions
  • Active listening and the concept of silence
  • Observational skills
  • How to get participants to open up
  • How to capture the answers.
