We took UX to the next level to understand how people navigated through the complex service and support ecosystem during the 2019 North Queensland Monsoon disaster.

During the session we will explore the following topics followed by Q&A:

  • Research considerations with a vulnerable population
  • Intricacies of individual experience
  • Interconnections of critical services and infrastructure
  • Challenges of mapping and synthesising such a complex ecosystem
  • Strategies to communicate complexity without losing site of the individual
  • The need for cross sector and disciplinary collaboration to provide essential services to everyone

Project background:

Symplicit is a Founding Partner of Thriving Communities Partnership(TCP). Through this relationship we worked with the TCP programs team to deliver this powerful research project. The research involved working with members of the local community, businesses and government bodies to understand how communities and organisations can be more prepared to plan for and enable recovery from natural disasters. The results have application across any natural disaster and with people experiencing hardship.
