Screen Reader Demo + Accessibility Q&A

Even though we pretty much all know and agree that ensuring digital accessibility is a part of every web tech professional's job, there's still a fair bit of mystery around how it all works and what you're supposed to actually do.
For UX professionals, the question can be how to include accessibility best practice into your regular working processes. What are the mechanical processes involved, and what effect does that actually have for people who have disabilities trying to use your websites and apps?
One way to get some perspective is to understand how a person who has a disability really uses the web. Unless you're in the digital accessibility business or have a personal or professional relationship with a disabled person, there aren't many opportunities to get real, practical insights.
We got you.
This webinar has two purposes-
First, you spend 30 minutes following along onscreen as a blind person uses a screen reader to engage with some examples of web content. Or attempts to.
Second, you get to ask those "dumb" questions that aren't dumb at all and can only be answered by someone who's been there, done that - and is still there, doing that.
True, screen readers are not the only assistive technology and blind people are not the only people with disabilities - but between them they can give you an insight into the principles and practicalities of digital accessibility that you need just to do your job properly.
Presenters Scott Nixon and Andrew Downie have done a lot of web browsing in their time and have deeply personal experience with accessibility - and the lack of it. They're straight talkers, not without humour and not without some frustration at their continued disenfranchisement from the digital world - for no good reason! We have the technology - it just needs to be implemented accessibly.
3pm-4pm Tuesday 25 August - Scott Nixon
3pm-4pm Wednesday 26 August - Andrew Downie
Register in advance to the Webinars! NB registration gives you access to both webinars - you can attend either or both.
