Move it AND use it

Half day workshop. 6 Nov, 1.30pm – 5pm.

Description

Once considered ‘evil’, animation is now a legitimate tool in the interaction designer’s toolkit. While adoption of animations and transitions in user interfaces is increasing, many (most?) practicing interaction designers have no experience or training in motion design. Designing for motion requires a different sensibility and a mind for detail. Wireframes don’t cut it when we need to design and document just the right transition.

In this workshop we’ll explore some of the attributes and uses of motion design in interactive products. Through hands on exercises we will gain experience conceptualising, prototyping, evaluating and specifying time-based animations and transitions for modern user interfaces.

Target audience

Any interaction designer wishing to build their skills in evaluating, designing, prototyping and specifying animations and transitions in their user interfaces.

Takeaway material

All attendees will take away:

  • Exercise worksheets
  • Handout of canonical transition patterns
  • Copies of presentations
  • List of resources
  • An online repository where we will upload exercise videos
