Disliked design: Delivering bad news through good UX

We aim for delightful experiences, but sometimes delight isn’t on the menu. Mitch Barwick showcases a project required to give customers disappointing information. This is a story of angry users, disheartened teams and unclear goals. Luckily, this is also a story of designers finding positive outcomes in negative spaces.

By day Mitch Barwick is a UX Designer at nib health funds, tasked with helping customers understand Private Health Insurance online. By night, he moonlights as a designer in the Indigenous Business Sector. His experience includes Reconciliation Action Plans for Westpac and CISCO, and web design for Indigenous Business Australia.
