Medical errors are the third leading cause of death in the U.S. As a UX designer for a leading healthcare IT company, Jody is determined to change this statistic. Visualizing patient data appropriately is imperative for improving clinician’s ability to provide quality healthcare to the population.
Designing for healthcare is complicated. It is governed by strict regulations, accessibility doctrines, and psychology principles. As designers, we need to go beyond plotting data on the first graph type we think of and seek to fully understand our users’ goals, needs and environment. A patient’s single data set may need to be displayed drastically differently for a nurse, physician, and the patient themselves. Even the smallest design detail can have big consequences in the perception of patient data.
During this talk, Jody will give detailed recommendations based on her experiences for how to create data visualizations while working in a high-paced, regulated design environment.
