Ben Kraal

Ben Kraal is a Research Fellow with the People and Systems Lab at QUT. His background is in Human-Computer Interaction by way of computer science.

At the People and Systems Lab, Ben’s research involves collecting data in the field, usually by videotaping people’s interactions with products and services and then analysing those interactions to find opportunities for design interventions.

Ben’s research focus is understanding how people make technologies part of their lives and how products and services mediate interaction. His research encompasses technology, design and sociological perspectives on use, experience and expertise.

Current and previous projects include understanding how people make speech recognition software useful in the workplace, looking at how nurses perform compression bandaging for venous leg ulcers, investigating how doctors use (ordinary) stethoscopes in order to develop a digital stethoscope for telehealth and observing the passenger experience in airports.
