Defending Design: Writing to Influence
How do you influence when you're not in the room? When you're creating a proposal, drafting a design rationale, or nutting out an issue over Slack, writing is still critical to influencing others. And it's a skill few designers are explicitly taught or feel confident in.
The good news: writing is a craft you can learn. In this workshop, taught by content strategist, writer and TEDx speaker Matt Fenwick, you'll learn a new way of approaching writing at work — and some tools and tactics you can apply to expand your influence in writing.
Specifically, we'll cover:
- Using writing to make a case for change, or articulate the value of your work
- Applying empathy in writing - for your end-users and your clients
- Layering and structuring your deliverables
- Making technical concepts simple
- Collaborative techniques to make writing easier
You'll also have a chance to bring along a piece of writing to workshop with your peers.
In this workshop, you'll learn the fundamentals of framing your ideas in writings and is for designers of all disciplines who struggle to articulate their thinking in writing.
This workshop will run online on Thursday, August 26 at 1 pm.
