Designers in the Land of Health: A map for the uninitiated

Have you ever worked on a healthcare project and felt overwhelmed? Have you never worked on a healthcare project and feel overwhelmed at the prospect? Do you work on health projects but feel stuck sometimes in engaging with other team members and inhibited in doing design work?

I recently completed a Masters in Interaction Design and spent three years working and thinking about how a designer gets stuff done on Health projects.

In this talk I present my approach to understanding Healthcare as a design domain and the things I have learned from working with doctors, allied health professionals, social researchers and other designers. I also present the learnings from researching other health design projects in both academic literature and industry articles.

I don't have all the answers... but this talk should help you to feel confident in recognising issues particular to designing for health and give you some frameworks and guidelines for overcoming obstacles and finding opportunities to an authentically human-centred design practice in health.
