UX Australia 2010

101 things I (should have) learned in interaction design school: The sequel

Shane Morris, Matt Morphett

At UX Australia last year, Matt and Shane attempted to take the entire, rich history of architectural theory and practice and translate it, live and unrehearsed, to the domain of Interaction Design. Some say they succeeded some say they failed miserably. Some say they were going along just fine until what was subsequently described as “The End Bit”.

Think what you will, there was one thing that everyone agreed on – there was no way the UX Australia lawyers were going to let them come back for another round.

Well, think again! This year Matt and Shane are back and they plan to go one better. Last year they merely attempted to compensate for Interaction Design’s lack of a rigorous body of knowledge by stealing wantonly from the long tradition of architecture. They did this with the help of Matthew Frederick’s “101 Things I learned in Architecture School”, a bingo barrel and an unsuspecting audience. This year they figure Interaction Design has matured enough to stand proudly as an equal amongst other design disciplines. All it is lacking is a 5,000 year tradition.  That’s where you come in.  With the help of you the presentation audience, the contributors to ixd101.com and their own enormous knowledge and experience, Matt and Shane will do what took Architecture 5,000 year to do… in just 50 minutes! (Minus question time.)

Educational, inspirational, enormously collaborative, a little bit racy and above all extremely risky. Come again this year to enjoy more of Matt and Shane’s unique brand of not preparing.
