Civic
- Cream – free wireless, good coffee, good breakfast, mixed experiences with noise
- Anise
- Sammy’s Kitchen: Asian
- Gus’s: Canberra’s first open-air cafe
- Tongue & Groove: One of Canberra’s newest bars – really interesting fitout
- Wig & Pen: English pub and brewery
Dickson
- New Asia: traditional Chinese. Plain decor, but great food
- Dickson Asian Noodle House: best laksa in Canberra (fast, too)
- Kennys: Inexpensive, home-style, great food. Best hotpot in Canberra
- Jimmy’s Place: Chinese, with an interesting menu
Kingston
- Madam Woo: Modern Asian
- Artespresso: Modern Australian
- Vascos: Portuguese
- Thai Chiang Rai: Thai
- Silo Bakery: widely recommended for breakfast
- Pizzazz: For breakfast and lunch
- Belgian Beer cafe: chain Belgian. Decent beer list (not as good as in some cities)
Manuka
- Timmy’s Kitchen: Chinese and Malaysian
- Ginseng: Traditional Chinese
- Mecca Bah: Lebanese
- Wasabi: good teppanyak
- Verve: Modern Australian
- Charmers coffee lounge & restaurant: Cafe-style
Barton
- Ottoman: very well-regarded Turkish
