Agile UX 2012: How we’re choosing the program

Note: Proposals are closed.

What we’re looking for

We’re looking for presentations about how to create great user experiences within the structure of an Agile development project. We don’t have fixed ideas on what those answers are – that’s where your experiences come in. Tell us how you created great user experiences.

We’ll be looking for presentations that really show how UX and Agile fit together. If your idea sounds like it is general user experience design, we’re likely to say no (e.g. we don’t want a presentation that is just about doing up front user research; or one that is just about slimming down documentation). If it’s general Agile development, we’re also likely say no.

You’ll need to have done it, not just thought about it. And you’ll probably need to have done it twice or more – the best insights come from repeating something in a slightly different context.

How we’ll gather proposals

We won’t be running a call for proposals in the same way we do for our main conference (where we have a deadline, a submission system and reviewers). Instead:

  • we’d like you to send us your idea
  • then we’ll schedule a call or meeting with you to talk through your idea

We want to talk to you as we want to create a program with maximun diversity and coverage, and only have 7 presentation slots to do that. We’ll talk to you about how your idea may overlap with others and what gaps we have in the program. We’ll work with successful presenters to make sure the presentations overlap only a little, so we don’t end up with three talks that all say the same thing.

OK, I’m ready

If you would like to present, here’s what you have to do:

  • read our post on writing a conference proposal
  • send us an email outlining what you’d like to cover (or more than one idea)
  • make sure you explain where your idea came from (i.e. is it something you’ve been thinking about, a client case study or an accumulation of experience from a number of projects)

Get your ideas to us as soon as possible – there’s no deadline and when we have a full program, that’s it.

10-minute talks

There will be four 10-minute talks immediately after lunch. These will be open to anyone registered by end January (end of early-bird registration) and will be voted in by registered attendees too. We’ll let everyone know about these in early February.
